RWAYH, MSNR and Keeneland

We had an incredibly busy weekend. And my heart is full.

Andrea was gracious enough to host the Run With All Your Hart Satellite Run here in town Saturday morning.

And some of us were able to make the trip to Russell Springs to attend the race. This was such an emotional run.

Saturday evening lots of us headed downtown for A Midsummer Night’s Run. Lots of PRs. Lots of first time 5K finishers. The weather was just amazing.

Sunday morning, we met at Keeneland for our long run of the weekend.

Brooke, LaTanya, and Retta all had distance bests out there!

Hope to see you out there soon!

happy running!

looking forward to fall!

We are at that point in the summer where we need to be committing to training plans for fall races. Also, some of the registration fees go up in the next few weeks, so I wanted to let you all know what races the LexRunLadies would be focused on!

July 29th – The Color Run 5K

I am very very excited about this race. It is going to be a blast! It is very laid back. It isn’t even timed! Registration is still open and I assume carpooling will be encouraged. I ordered shirts last week, but I will have a few extras, so hit me up quick if you’re interested!

If you haven’t registered, check our FB page as someone had a few open registrations at the early bird price. I can also send you a link to save $5 that I can dig out of my email if you need it.

August 11 – this is a BIG DAY.

Part 1 – At 8:30am, we’ll take a group of ladies down to run the Run with All your Hart 5K in honor of Sarah Hart. I volunteer to drive a carload down. I think this is an important race. We need to show our support and love in response to this senseless tragedy.

Part 2- At 8:30pm, we’ll head downtown to the MidSummer Night’s Run. This is one of my favorite 5Ks. It is also the graduation race for our current C25K class. 2 races in one day? It doesn’t get more hardcore than this, ladies. (And it’s good double-run practice for us Bourbon Chasers.)

September 22 – CASA 10K.

To my knowledge, this is the only fall 10K (and a popular race for PRs). It is a nice course at Coldstream. I’ll have the training program up in the next few days, but it will start with a long run of 4 miles the last weekend in July. You can do that, right?

September 28-29 – The Bourbon Chase

Just go poke around the site and see how cool this race is. Lots of your fellow Ladies (and Dudes) will be running. We’d love to see familiar faces at aid stations and the finish line!

October 14 – The Iron Horse Half Marathon

This race is amazing. Wonderful course.nGreat size. Great medal. Lots and lots of our Ladies will be there. The training program starts next week! I’m hoping to have enough volunteers to have a LexRunLadies water station just like we had at RunTheBluegrass. Oh, and there will be tshirts!

October 21 – The PTA 5K

This will be the graduation race for the next class of C25Kers. We are partnering with the YMCA and the 16th District PTA to train new runners for this race. Volunteer Coaches are needed for weekly training sessions and I’m hoping some of you will pay it forward! I should have more concrete info in the next few days.

October 26 – The Black Cat 5K

I love night races. And I love running in Frankfort. So I’m putting this one on the schedule. It is such a fun race. You’ll love it!

November 11 – The Marshall Marathon and Half Marathon

EEK! Yup, you read that right. Marathon. Marathon training for this race started last week, and half marathon training still has a few weeks until it kicks off. I know already that Kelly has committed to the full and Lydia to the half. I’m sure they’d love to have your support or company! This race is pretty stinking flat compared to anything we run around here. The crowd support is what you’d expect out of a small race, but it is really pretty flat.

I will not be there, however, because Nathan, Amber and I will be
running the OBX Marathon the same day. This is going to be a big weekend!

So where will we see you? Will you be running, cheering, or volunteering?

Spread the word!

Alright, Ladies. The time has come. Get your printers ready. Get your push-pins.

Let’s go hang up some flyers!

Retta was gracious enough to create this great summerrunners flyer for us! Click for the PDF printable version.

Hang them at work, coffee shops, wherever you can. Get creative! The more the merrier!

Here is the sign-up page! I look forward to running with you and your friends!

tshirts and weekend runs – April 28th and 29th

Hello friends! I’ve got some things you need to know!

Ann designed some Zombies tshirts for us and I’ve finally gotten around to getting all the estimates together.

I have secured shirts with a local printer. Here are the details:

  • Shirts are from Hanes. They are white tech and a women’s fit. The will be printed with a “Runner 5″ logo on the front and a zombie LRL logo on the back.
  • Shirts will be $25 for S-XL and $29 for 2XL. I have not been able to find measurements for this shirt. (Believe me – I’ve looked.)
  • I will be taking orders through 4pm on 4/29. I MUST have the money for the shirt before placing the order. I will be at both group runs this weekend. We can try to arrange other meetings throughout the week or you can put it in the mail to me by Wednesday. (Check made to Krissie Bentley. Email me at lexrunladies at gmail dot com for address.)
  • We need 15 orders to get the shirts at this price. If we do not have 15, I will get an amended quote and price will be adjusted.
  • Any leftover money (roughly 75 cents per shirt) will be donated to the Run to Remember (my charity for the Bourbon Chase).
  • Shirts will be printed and available in about 2 weeks. We’ll worry about a pick-up time and place then.

Follow this link to the order form!

Now, for weekend runs.

Saturday April 28th at 9am

We’ll run a 5-mile loop at Shakertown in Harrodsburg. Nathan and I are familiar with these trails. We will not take any turn until all members of the group reach the turn. The trail is mostly grass or paved with some gravel. You will not be left alone at any turn. I’ve been lost on trails before. I will take much better care of you. :) If you want to look at the map, you can download it here.

Once you turn into Shakertown, park in the main parking lot (will say tours, admissions, something like that). You’ll turn left at the entrance and the parking lot will be almost immediately on the right. We’ll be in a beige Altima.

Sunday April 29th at 4pm

We will run at the Arboretum. The loop is about 2 miles. As few or as many laps as you’d like!

Keep your mind on the following weekend as well. The Derby Day Stakes will be a fun run with 5K, 10K, and 15K options. I’ve also heard that they are desperate for volunteers. A LexRunLadies water station? Anyone interested? Anyone want to coordinate? I would, but I’ll already be in Cincy for the Flying Pig! Marathon baby!

And remember that we have a new C25K and 10K training groups starting on May 13th! Spread the word!

happy running!

Run the Bluegrass…in pictures

I had an absolute blast at Run the Bluegrass! I will be posting links to race reports in the next few days as they roll in, but I thought I’d go ahead and give you some pictures! (and I hope you don’t mind, volunteers, that I lifted some pics that you’d tweeted/posted to FB)

if you picked up a shirt on Friday, it was from a LexRunLady!

We love our volunteers! (and their shirts!)

our littlest volunteer

love for the Dudes too

"Help me, Oprah Winfrey! Help me, Tom Cruise!"

in total denial that she's moving away.

Q: "How ya feeling, Holli?"
A: "This sh!t is WHACK!"

I’m still trying to gather words for yesterday. Let me just say that you ladies made my day. Looking for you before and after the race. Hellos during the race. Cheering for and being cheered by. I don’t have words for how much you all – individually and collectively – mean to me. I am so incredibly blessed to be a part of this community of runners.

I’m already looking forward to next year! And making lots of plans for the meantime.

happy running, my sweet friends.

Time to Run the Bluegrass! (and other upcoming excitement)

I haven’t been this excited about a weekend in a long time. I can’t wait for Run the Bluegrass Half-Marathon! We had a great turn out at the Volunteers Meeting last night. It is only a sign of things to come!

We have a lot going on in the next week! (Don’t stop reading if you’re not a halfer/volunteer! There’s more in this update!)

Friday 3/30: Expo is from 12-8. You can pick up packets, buy some fun gear, participate in the mustache contest, just come hang out with me and Kelly. Whatever. It’s gonna be a blast.

Saturday 3/31: Volunteers should already have an email from me with info (let me know ASAP if you didn’t get it). Volunteers and runners will meet at 7:20 for a picture. In front of the Entertainment Center, on the side of the start line. Not running or volunteering? Come cheer at the finish line!

Sunday 4/1: We’ll run at the Arboretum at 4pm. No planned distance or program. Just to keep our Resolution Runners running. And another chance for a group run! The lovely Bethany will be the leader!

Wednesday 4/4: We’ll meet at Thai Orchid at 6pm to celebrate Run the Bluegrass. Runners, volunteers, cheerleaders, anybody who is a part of LRL and wants to come. Spouses are welcome as well.

It is not required, but please sign up if you plan on coming to any event, especially dinner.

(I plan on having an actual calendar embedded here soon. This is my accountability statement.)

I hope to see you on Saturday! The LexRunLadies will be everywhere!

If you have any questions, the race website is very comprehensive. Check out www.runthebluegrass.org

Graduation Day! The Race to Read

I am so proud of our Resolution Runners. They showed up Sunday after Sunday to run their way through Couch to 5K. I am so blessed to have been able to go through the process with them. To have run with them through their self-doubt. To celebrate with them at the end of that 20-minute run on Week 5. These ladies reminded me of the joy that comes with sticking it out. They taught me about trusting the program. They reminded me what it is like to fall in love with running.

I cannot thank them enough.

I also want to send a huge shout-out to those ladies who wanted to complete the program but weren’t able due to injury. Sometimes it takes the body longer to get used to running than we’d like. But stick with it, friends. You’ll get there. I know you will.

For those of you who want to start – or recommit! – we’ll be starting a new group in April. So keep your eyes out. And think of who you may want to invite or bring with you.

Like always, we had a range of LexRunLadies at the race. First time 5K-ers. Marathoners-in-training. It was a beautiful day and the weather was just perfect. It was so good to see all of you out there!

Okay, enough rambling. On to the pictures.

happy running!

Group Run – Run the Bluegrass!

I love the course of the Run the Bluegrass Half-Marathon. We have several different options – 4 miles, 7 miles, and full 13 mile courses. We will be starting at 7:30. Pictures from previous run on this course can be found here.

Parking: When you come into Keeneland from Versailles Road/Man O’War, take your first right. There will be a sign there for the Keene Barn and Entertainment Center. We park behind it. You go up the hill, around the buildings, and the parking lot is right back there! If you come into Keeneland from some other way, here’s a map. (Right there on the top right by the picnicking horse.)

Routes:

4 mile route: Click for more detail.

7 mile route: Click for more detail

13.1 mile route. Click for details. This route includes Old Frankfort Pike which will have more traffic than the other routes.

Questions? Concerns? Fears? Leave ‘em in the comments!

And, if you don’t care, sign up here so I’ll know roughly who to look for. (You don’t have to sign up to come, I just like to know!)

I hope to see you there!

Run the Bluegrass

photo from RunTheBluegrass.org

On March 31, Lexington will host the Run the Bluegrass Half-Marathon. I have been blessed to be a part of the RACE Team. I have been privy to the behind-the-scenes work that is going on for this race. This race is a true labor of love for the organizers. The creativity and quality and attention to detail going into this race is amazing. The Run the Bluegrass Half Marathon will truly spotlight the central Kentucky experience. From the food to the awards to the medals to the entertainment, this race will be a great overview of central Kentucky.

Some of us have ran parts of the course before. And we know that it isn’t easy peasy. But we also know that the beauty is worth it. This race will not be an easy race. The course is new this year and runs through and around Keeneland. The hills are serious, but that’s how we run in Central Kentucky. (More pictures and reviews can be found here.)

There are lots of opportunities for you to get involved. Most obvious, you could sign up to run 13.1. I know that’s not feasible for everyone. And you probably should have started training by now (unless you are just a high-mileage runner).

Another option (that I am REALLY excited about) is to run the race as a team. The Relay Option splits the course into 4 sections: 3.75 miles, 3.25 miles, 2.75 miles, and 3.35 miles. You’ll get the same shirt, but no medal. It would be fine to walk/run these distances. That means that you Resolution Runners could easily to this course as a team of 4. If you are interested, please leave a comment here and we’ll start making connections.

I would also love it if LexRunLadies had a presence as volunteers. I’d love to have enough volunteers to have our own water station. Don’t know what volunteering would be like? Erin wrote up a piece on volunteering at the Iron Horse that might inspire you!.

If you plan on being there, please sign on the spreadsheet on the schedule page. I’m hoping to host a meeting of Run the Bluegrass runners in early February so the more of you I know to contact, the better! It will also help me get an idea of how our volunteers can be best utilized.

I hope to see you there. In a bib. Handing out water. In whatever capacity you can show support for your local running community.

For more information, visit RunTheBluegrass.org. There’s so much information there. (You might see a familiar face on 2011′s Most Improved Runners page also.)
